In a world that seems so fragile, understanding the complexities of nature seems overwhelming. But if you can take a moment, whether it is while walking down the street or sitting in your backyard,  you will notice.

A bird feeder is a very complex ecosystem that does more than feed just birds. It feeds birds, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, insects, plants, and the soil. Through each creature feeding, transporting, nourishing, digesting, eliminating, and composting, everything is put back into our complex system to nourish us again and again.

Squirrels are fascinating to watch, fearless, intelligent, and definitely risk-takers! They are relentless and spunky, they make messes of our bird feeders!

They also spread seeds around for the creatures that cannot utilize the bird feeder, like doves, chipmunks, rabbits, and beneficial bugs and worms to nourish the soil. Birds enjoy the protein crawling around to.

Thoughts. Experiences. Inspiration.

I started Olivine Moss with the goal of offering readers a glimpse into my thoughts and interests. What started out as research posts have evolved into a dynamic site packed with information about various topics that are near and dear to me. Take some time to explore the blog and see for yourself what inspires you!

Olivine also known as peridot is a fascinating green gem that is created in the earth’s mantle and pushed up through magma shoots. This fascinating gem can only be made on rocky planets with a mantle core.

Olivine is found in asteroids that come crashing to earth from previously formed rocky planets destroyed long ago! The beauty in knowing how closely linked Olivine is to the formation of our planet and the right conditions for life to flourish is fascinating.

Moss is the building block of plant life and creates the necessary conditions for seeds to germinate and thrive.

Moss has been known to live on earth as long as 299 million years and survived at least 3 major extinction events. Moss continues to thrive and nurture seeds, bugs, and small animals today.
